Not many can say they were burned by fate. I’m the exception.
Scalded figuratively, emotionally, and physically… I have the scars running down my arm, ribs, and side to prove it.

The doctors have done what they can to heal me by smoothing the abraded skin using other parts of my body. But they can only do so much. Sometimes, what can’t be seen can’t be healed.

The fire that night took more than a pound of flesh. It obliterated my talent, beauty, and most importantly, seared the connection I had with the man I loved. Sure, it was me who pushed him away, but I had my reasons. I did what any woman would do in my situation. I gave up everything so that one day he’d find happiness and peace.

Now I’ve healed a bit on the outside, and on the inside, but I still crave the one I let go. To this day he looks at me with fire in his eyes, a heat so bright in his being he glows with it. I fear the light, the flames that could consume me whole. The problem now is, he’s not mine anymore. I just may have waited too long to fight for him, for us, for a future together.
There’s only one thing I can do. Let fate decide.

I could read the Trinity Series forever and ever. The emotions flew off the page and hit me straight in the heart. These characters may have gone through some pretty outrageous things, but they always felt so real and relatable. I loved this story the most with its messages about second chances, not only in romance, but for someone as an individual, as well. It showed how crippling a trauma could be, and how important it was to find acceptance within yourself and your situation. Life shouldn’t end while your still breathing.

At this point in the series, I was seriously invested in Carson and Kat’s relationship. Out of all the couples, I noticed the spark from the start and wanted to see it through. I didn’t know how or when they were going to get their happily ever after, but I knew it needed to happen. Their journey was so emotional and heartfelt, but then the twists and turns added in another level of drama. The suspense of yet another obstacle for this couple was frustrating at times, but it gave it a good amount of action the second half. There was also some humor in the best of places that lightened the otherwise angsty and dramatic tone of the novel. Carson and Kat’s love was undeniable and explosive, which made their hot and heavy scenes seem both sexy and sweet.

Another important relationship to acknowledge was the one between Chase and Kat. I adored the way he stood by Kat and helped her through her healing process despite her continuous and relentless pushing away of everyone she loved. I realized in this book that Chase was as much the glue that kept the group together as Gillian was, and I really loved that.

Despite not wanting it to end, it was finished beautifully with the bittersweet epilogue. Every soul sister and their husbands were brought back in and had their individual stories tied off. It was great to finally see them all in such a happy place after all that they had been through. This was the perfect way to end the series. I felt the intense passion and dedication that Audrey Carlan poured into this story. This is by far my favorite of Carlan’s work and a favorite read of the year. Highly recommend it! Whether as a standalone or as part of the series, you need to read this!

The only negative thing about this book was something that always bothered in the previous novels, and that was Maria’s Spanish. I wasn’t exactly keeping track so don’t quote me on this, but it seemed as if 80% of the time, the Spanish was incorrect. Some sentences weren’t correctly translated, others used the wrong pronoun. I understand the author may not be fluent in Spanish, but that’s what editors are for. If you’re going to have a character speak a language in your book, they have to speak it correctly. And no, Google Translate is not a correct source. Of course, if you don’t know the language this kid bit isn’t going to bother you, but it stood out to me, because it was more than once or twice.
