New Release Review | Oxygen Deprived (Kilgore Fire Series) by Lani Lynn Vale
That was the motto that Drew lived by in all things, including his love life.
He’s a player, pure and simple.
He’s learned the hard way that women aren’t all hearts and flowers. Sometimes their sexy bodies and beautiful faces are just a pretty shield to hide the crazy, and he’s so freakin’ over crazy.
Been there, done that. He has the divorce papers to prove it.
Karma hits like a bitch.
Aspen needs a break. A long one that doesn’t include anything with a Y chromosome. Not even one as tempting as her new neighbor who just moved in across the street. Men are trouble with a capital freakin’ T, and she has the ankle monitor to prove it.
The last man she gave her heart to was a police officer. A man whose life was dedicated to protection, and he was supposed to protect her heart—not break it.
She decides right then and there that she’s done with being the better person.
Everything happens for a reason.
A rash decision—undoubtedly regrettable, undeniably unforgettable. In the heat of the moment, Aspen’s actions with a tire iron and her ex-boyfriend’s brand new SUV land him in the ER getting stitches and have her seeing the inside of a jail cell for the first time.
It’s just her luck that the whole town is there to witness the result of her poor decision, including her police officer brother and the neighbor that already made it more than clear she was more trouble than she was worth.
House arrest never looked so good.
Hide your crazy.
Drew enjoyed the show, though. For the first time in a year, he’s thinking about his life, and how it would be a lot more enjoyable with a woman like Aspen at his side.
Aspen, sister to Downy, has just been confined to her home. Literally, confined to her home for the next two months with no chance of leaving to even go to the local store. Why you ask? Because Aspen has been put on house arrest for the damage of property and assault. Gosh a woman scorned can’t even deliver a little retribution. Even if said assault was done too not one but two officers of the law, one officer was her cheating fiancé whom she caught with his hands down his female partners pants! So yes Aspen is quite peeved and feeling unloved at the moment.
Drew, a member of the Kilgore Fire Department and on call medic for the SWAT team, has just witness his cute neighbor attempt to put her trash cans out. Now one might think what’s so interesting about watching your neighbor roll her crummy trash out? Well said neighbor is teetering on her yard trying not pass some invisible line and at the same time trying to get her cans all the way to the end of her yard. With many failed attempts she leaves her cans partially hidden by a rose bush and walks away. Being a good man that he is, even though his soon to be ex-wife will say different, he heads on over to set the cans straight and find out just what in the heck it was he just witness. Boy oh boy is he in for an adventure.
This particular story was one that I had been patiently awaiting for some time. Lani Lynn had hinted at this story some time back and I could not wait to get my hands on it. She did not disappoint one bit! Aspen & Drew’s story is a homerun hitter. Aspen was by far my favorite female in the Kilgore series, reason being was her job. I want her job! Aspen is a product tester for her blog and not just everyday household products but some coming from the local adult store “Uncertain Pleasures”. Drew & Aspen have quite some fun testing out said adult products together. I will just say that some scenes had me cranking my fan up to top speed just to cool my overheated skin down. All was not peachy perfect for these two at all though. Aspen being on house arrest and having a douche bag ex was just two obstacles in her life. She also was trying very hard to connect with her brother Downy, who at times seemed very standoffish toward her. Drew is coming out of a long winded marriage that just had no more life left in it. He also has a snappy mouthed teenager to challenge him at all times. So these two had all the odds against them. It seemed at times they would just whole up in Aspen’s home and leave the outside world and their problems out there. These two needed a happy ending ASAP and yes indeed they do receive it. Again this was a great story with many wonderful supporting characters and yes a couple of hated characters too (*cough Drew’s ex-wife, Aspen’s ex douche bag fiancé) I give this read a 4 kiss rating and say to you the reader, hurry and one click this beauty or add to your TBR list ASAP.
