New Release & Giveaway ★ The Play by Karina Halle +Excerpt & Review

A troubled Scottish rugby player who doesn't play by the rules.

A vivacious man-eater who's given up on love.
When it comes to Lachlan and Kayla, opposites don't just attract - they explode.

Kayla Moore has always been comfortable with her feisty, maneating reputation. At least it was fine until she hit her thirties and saw her best friends Stephanie and Nicola settle down with Linden and Bram McGregor, leaving Kayla to be the odd one out. Tired of being the third wheel with nothing but one-night stands and dead-end dates in San Francisco, Kayla decides to take a vow of celibacy and put men on the backburner.

That is until she lays her eyes on Linden and Bram’s cousin, hot Scot Lachlan McGregor. Lachlan is her sexual fantasy come to life – tall, tatted, and built like a Mack truck. With a steely gaze and successful rugby career back in Edinburgh, he’s the kind of man that makes her want to throw her vow right out the window. But Lachlan’s quiet and intense demeanor makes him a hard man to get to know, let alone get close to.

It isn’t until the two of them are thrown together one long, unforgettable night that Kayla realizes there is so much more to this brooding macho man than what meets the eye. But even with sparks flying between the two, Lachlan can’t stay in America forever. Now, Kayla has to decide whether to uproot her whole life and chance it all on someone she barely knows or risk getting burned once again.
Sometimes love is a game that just needs to be played.

Holy Hardy! Karina Halle really created a masterpiece with The Play. I’ll admit that I will read literally anything Karina writes, but I can be objective with her writing and I cannot be anymore honest with my feelings about this newest novel.
Her natural talent will really shine through and blow people away. This is her hottest book by far!

This is a long book and I was so sure it would take me a week to finish. I ended up spending about a day and half with it. I was so captivated and simply taken over by it.
Told in two split parts, The Play takes us through an emotional journey. The first is set in San Francisco which introduces Kayla and Lachlan to the reader and to each other. There were so many cute moments and sexy times to give us those “aww” and “ooh” reactions. Though the prologue will truly gut you.
The second half is primarily set in Edinburgh with the occasional San Francisco scene. This part focuses more on the troubling demons that plague Lachlan. As well as the difficult struggle of having a person in his life that he cares deeply and romantically for. It’s in this section that the two characters really face the dark and must decide if the other is worth the fight.

Kayla Moore and Lachlan McGregor, these are two characters that will crawl into your brains and hearts and cement their stories. They are far from perfect with their insecurities, harrowing lives, and misunderstood personalities. Yet they both have soft sides that will both intrigue you and make it impossible for you to turn your backs on them.
Lachlan was mysterious and terse, but his unconditional love for dogs was the thing that really hooked me in.
Kayla is has always been seen as a wild, man-eater by her pals and coworkers, but there’s so much underneath it all. She’s a lot tougher and intelligent than how most perceive her as.
They’re both so strong and resilient, both headstrong and determined, I couldn’t imagine them with any other people. Excuse the cheesiness, but they were made for each other.

This book is down right intense. It had all sorts of emotions prodded out of me. The steamy, sensual scenes had me blushing with delight. Those scenes were insanely hot, but somehow never seemed raunchy or out of place. Lachlan and Kayla’s chemistry is intense to say the least. You can see their potential and feel that connection instantly, even though Lachlan is so closed off at first.
As bad as it sounds, I liked how hard their journey was. It was so real and it showed how imperfect romances can be.
Even when Lachlan was happy with Kayla, he wasn’t able to fully relax and bask in said happiness. He was constantly on edge just waiting for the ball to drop. His struggle with being happy was sad in it’s own right. Lachlan had a painful past that never allowed him to heal despite overcoming it. I dare readers to get through the prologue without at least producing a few tears.

As much as I drooled over the beautiful and sexy moments, there really were PLENTY of heartbreaking moments. There wasn’t a usual pattern of happy-sad-drama-happy. Emotions were up and down constantly.
Nevertheless, the pain was counterbalanced enough with hope and passion to get me through it. It’ll leave you with a long, satisfied sigh and a hopeful outlook on love and life itself.

I hope you’ve already purchased this novel, but if you haven’t, I implore (really I’m on my knees right now) you to go to your preferred eBook store and buy it.
Not only will you receive an emotionally gripping story, but you’ll also be saving a dog or cat who desperately needs help. Not to mention the misunderstood pit bulls!
