Book Tour Review ✭ Dirty Lies by Emma Hart

Bad boy drummer Aidan Burke of Dirty B takes center stage in New York Times bestselling author Emma Hart’s hotly anticipated follow-up to Dirty Past and Dirty Secret!

Aidan Burke is the perfect rebound guy for Jessie Law after she catches her asshole ex-boyfriend with his hands down some other girl’s pants. The world-famous drummer of Dirty B isn’t shy about his preference for no-strings-attached relationships, so when she meets him on a night out, she takes him up on his simple proposal: One night of fun. Hot sex. Zero expectations.

But Dirty B’s tour is over, and they’re back in South Carolina—which means running into Aidan more often than Jessie would like.

When Aidan saves Jessie from her ex-boyfriend by insisting the two are dating, the band’s manager convinces them to keep up the charade in the hopes of re-inventing Dirty B’s image as lovable bad boys, as opposed to d-bags. Now all Aidan and Jessie have to do is put on a very obvious, very public show to convince everyone their affection is real.

But pretending to be in a relationship is harder than it seems. Aidan’s hordes of jealous fans have no problem bombarding Jessie with threatening messages online—and worse. And things only get more complicated when Jessie realizes her feelings for Aidan may not be so fake after all. Can Jessie live with the risks? And is Aidan willing to let her?

Jessie Law is my newest girl crush. Sure Emma writes smoldering hot males in her steamy books, but the way she creates and presents her heroines is utter magic. Jessie is everything I’d want in a best friend or to be myself. She’s resilient, takes no crap from anyone, and is passionate about life itself. She doesn’t let anyone control her and the heartbreak she suffers strengthens rather than hinders her outlook on life.

Now let me express my adoration for Aidan Burke. He’s just as hot as his other brothers, but he shines in his own way. He got under my skin like he managed to do with Jessie. He’s not perfect, but like Jessie, he too has a deep, burning passion; his music. The hot drummer of Dirty B is no stranger to gorgeous women throwing themselves at him. The one woman who’s always stood out to him from the flock however, is the one who’s never given him the time of day.

After Jessie Law caught her ex-boyfriend stepping out on her, she steeled her heart and vowed to move on with her life. With the plan to shag away her troubles with any man deemed worthy of her time that is. Surprisingly, Aidan Burke, the man who was always a constant nag ends up coming to her rescue.

They both agree on the decision to spend one night together. With their bumpy, spiteful past, there’s no chance or fear of becoming attached. All goes to plan until Aidan jumps in to save her from her ex, and in that moment, a dirty lie is formulated.

When their fabricated relationship begins to make itself known as something more than a dirty lie, will Aidan be able to convince Jessie to enter into his wild, rock star world? Or will she choose to live a normal life sans her drummer in shining armor and his rabid fans.

Never have I ever loved a lie so much as I do the lie that was Aidan and Jessie. Their one little fib that started off to benefit them both far exceeds what they ever thought possible. I really liked the acknowledgment of the downside to the rock star life. Celebrities are normal human beings just like everyone else, and crazy fans more often than not, take their love and appreciation to the extreme. Thus in turn hurting those they idolize and their loved ones. Not everyone would’ve been able to push past the aggressive fan base quite like Jessie, but even she had her limits.

Typically, lies in a book begin spiraling out of control due to outside forces. In the case of Aidan and Jessie, their lie forced them to take a look at their lives individually. It also allowed them to take notice of the one person who they never bothered to truly get to know—but in Aidan’s case, not for lack of trying.
I didn’t feel like the lie itself was the main player in the book. Aidan and Jessie were still the front runners and I loved seeing them slowly realize the truths of what they needed in their lives to become happier individuals.

Written with the signature comedic banter and intense chemistry, Dirty Lies will leave you satiated and in love with yet another set of Emma Hart characters.

Now while I really hope you go one-click this book, I’m going to continue debating whether Tate+Ella’s story is my favorite or Aidan+Jessie’s. #bookwormproblems
