Blog Tour ✭ Say My Name by J. Kenner +ARC Review

Say My Name comp final
New York Times bestselling author J. Kenner kicks off a smoking hot, emotionally compelling new trilogy that returns to the world of her beloved Stark novels: Release Me, Claim Me, and Complete Me. Say My Name features Jackson Steele, a strong-willed man who goes after what he wants, and Sylvia Brooks, a disciplined woman who’s hard to get—and exactly who Jackson needs.

I never let anyone get too close—but he’s the only man who’s ever made me feel alive.

Meeting Jackson Steele was a shock to my senses. Confident and commanding, he could take charge of any room . . . or any woman.
And Jackson wanted me.
The mere sight of him took my breath away, and his touch made me break all my rules. Our bond was immediate, our passion untamed.
I wanted to surrender completely to his kiss, but I couldn’t risk his knowing the truth about my past. Yet Jackson carried secrets too, and in our desire we found our escape, pushing our boundaries as far as they could go.
Learning to trust is never easy. In my mind, I knew I should run. But in my heart, I never felt a fire this strong—and it could either save me or scorch me forever.

Say My Name is intended for mature audiences

This isn’t about me. This isn’t about Jackson. And it’s not about us, because there is no us. It’s about the resort, and I’d do well to remember that."
I absolutely loved the Stark trilogy and was so happy to read this new series that’s set in the same world. I went in with a clear head so as to not compare these two men—Damien and Jackson. While they both hold similar qualities—powerful, dominant, handsome, brooding—these alphas are very much different which allows for a refreshing read.

The story started off a bit slow, but still kept an air of mystery and intrigue to keep me wanting more. Sylvia Brooks is in a tight spot and the only way she can lift her vacation property project off the ground is to get the aloof, Jackson Steele on board. The biggest hurdle is the earth shattering past they share. Their two day love affair didn’t end on a good note, despite how passionate and out-of-this world it was for both of them. Sylvia made him leave, and now she needs to beg him to come back and stay for the sake of her dream project.

Seeing Jackson slowly transition from revenge seeking to desperately needing her back in his life was impacting. His feelings developed from point a to point b so fluidly and his struggle was reasonable, but still infuriating. Even at the end of the book, it's apparent that there’s still a lot he seems to be hiding and Sylvia can certainly sense it.

Sylvia’s reasons for not wanting to be with Jackson all those years ago were understandable and her childhood past is a heart-wrenching one. There were flashbacks of those terrifying moments and I could feel her pain and suffering. So much so that it brought me to tears.
She could’ve communicated her feelings to Jackson and possibly solved their dilemma, but her past was so dark that I understood her reservations about it.

Strong start to a brand new series from J. Kenner. The end leaves room for more drama-filled plot lines, but doesn’t finish on an agonizing cliffhanger. I’m looking forward to what Kenner gives us in the next two books.

Fans of J. Kenner will surely love this. While you can read it without having read the Stark Trilogy, I’d suggest reading that trilogy prior to starting this one. I believe it will allow for a better connection with the secondary characters, which are the leads of that trilogy.
