Eloise Montgomery discovers her amazing gift in the wake of tragedy in this first of three captivating stories that make up an e-novella from award-winning and New York Times bestselling author Lisa Unger.
It's a day like any other for Eloise Montgomery--until tragedy strikes. While she is recovering from a horrible accident that takes the lives of her husband and oldest daughter, and as she works to help her younger daughter move forward, Eloise experiences her first psychic vision. Though she struggles to understand her newfound gifts, Eloise finds a way use them to save lost women and girls--for whom her help may be the only way out…
It is also a prequel to Lisa Unger's novel FRAGILE, in which Eloise is first introduced. Eloise Montgomery is further explored in DARKNESS, MY OLD FRIEND.
From an author whose "gripping narrative and evocative, muscular prose" (Associated Press) have won her critical acclaim comes The Whispers: a story that delves deep into the human psyche and the mind of one unforgettable heroine.
❝ We all have our time and our design.
There are no accidents.
I wasn’t aware of the subject matter of this book or that it was part of a serial prior to reading and that really added to the mystery.
The story jumps in with a great descriptive overview of Eloise Montgomery’s family. She tells of the battling personalities within it and shares a sweet story of her first meeting with her husband. While short, I quickly felt connected to and invested in this family.
My heart sank when the familial quartet became a duo. Eloise and her daughter Amanda grieved differently in their own ways, but both were heartbreaking to witness.
While attempting to reconstruct her life and heal from her tragic accident, she encounters new found abilities that tie to the supernatural world. Suddenly she’s seeing visions of girls and hearing a strange voice that’s telling her to help them.
Even through Eloise’s recovery, she radiated strength every way she could. She took her time coming to terms with her loss, and then decided it was time to start living again; for herself, her living daughter, but most of all for her deceased husband and daughter.
Eloise’s visions were written so well. I easily felt as if I were experiencing them right alongside her. The writing had the perfect mix of intrigue and fright to keep me hooked.
This first part of the series is fast paced and emotion driven, but at its heart, it’s a story about a woman’s experience in dealing with loss. Of course there’s also supernatural elements that give the story that extra pop. Suspenseful and intriguing all the way through, this short novella has the ability to captivate the reader instantly. I will definitely be picking up the rest of this series to find out what happens next!
The Whispers is the first part of a three-part serial. It is also a prequel to the author’s full-length novel, Fragile, but can be read apart from it.
