✭Book Review✭ Relent by Nina Levine

Mark your diaries.

We're in for a wild ride.

"I’d sold my soul a long fucking time ago." ~ Kick (Relent)

Evie Bishop grew up loving Kick Hanson. He loved her, too. They were inseparable. Best friends who looked out for each other. Until the day scandal hit their families and ripped everything apart, changing the course of all their lives.

Kick follows a dangerous path that leads him to the Storm MC where he spends his days buried deep in a violent and lawless world that is slowly consuming his soul. Evie works hard to escape the hopelessness that threatens to swallow her after her family is ripped apart. She builds a stable life for herself, however it's devoid of the one thing she has always longed for - Kick.

The love these two have for each other never wavers but sometimes in life, love isn't enough. Even in the times they find each other again, they can never make it work. Kick fights against bringing Evie into his world and Evie refuses a life with Kick if he won't fully commit to her. However, when circumstance throws them together again, Kick knows he must finally make her his. The trouble is, Evie's done. She loves him but she believes their chance to be together has long passed.

When Kick finally stakes his claim, will Evie relent and give their love another go, or has Kick left it too long to go after the woman who has owned his heart forever?

We are introduced to Evie and Kick during their high school years. Kick comes to Evie’s defense when a group of girls start to taunt Evie about her promiscuity. Kick is quick to challenge the girls about anything they have to say about Evie. Kick is one of Evie’s closest friends, along with Jeremy. They are the trio that always sticks together. But life moves on, hearts get broken, feelings get hurt and this once perfect trio now becomes a past memory.

A tragic accident occurs leading to a meet of friends. Two in particular, Evie and Kick. Evie has always loved Kick, loved him more than just a friend. Kick also has the same emotions towards Evie. But Kick lives a hard lifestyle. He lives for his MC. He’s done what most men would go to prison for doing. He can’t let that part of him taint Evie. So he’s kept himself away. Things change, life events make you reevaluate your existing life. Now Kick has decided that Evie can stand to get a little dirty in his life.

Kick and Evie have such a gut wrenching past together. They’ve endured so many tragedies that you wonder “How are they not together already?” I really enjoyed the resistance that Evie had towards Kicks advances. She doesn’t just jump right into his arms when she sees him again. She’s actually pretty determine to keep him at arm’s length. But come on who can keep a HOT SCORCHING BIKER MAN away!! Not me, that’s for sure.
The flow of the story was somewhat slow at times. I would have liked to learn a little more about Kicks MC brothers. Also Evie’s back story was not as detailed as I would have hoped for. I needed a little more on the story of Evie’s sister.
This was a good read and great start to this new MC series. I look forward to the next installment of The Sydney Storm MC.
