“I love that you love me, professor.”

“I love loving you, beauty.”

Since their intense, passionate beginning, Professor Dean West and his wife Olivia have fought dark secrets and betrayal in order to save their marriage. Now reeling in the aftermath of a personal tragedy, Liv and Dean are driven further apart by a vindictive threat to Dean’s career. Struggling to stand on her own for the first time in years, Liv is determined to defend her husband and prove herself. Then an unexpected letter dredges up old insecurities and endangers Liv’s newfound independence. As Dean fights for his professional life, he is forced to confront his worst fear when he discovers that he can’t protect his beloved wife from her own painful past.

Please be aware that this is the conclusion of the series.
Awaken is NOT a stand-alone.

My Review:
"My white knight. My beautiful, strong, brave husband who loved me more than I ever knew it was possible to be loved."

This was such an emotional and fulfilling series. I've enjoyed tagging along Dean and Liv's journey through both wonderful and difficult times.

I felt an instant connection with the characters of this series from the start. Their loving relationship put a smile on my face, but it was their flaws that drew me in. Dean and Olivia have a beautiful marriage, but there are so many real aspects to it as well. That reality took my breath away in every way possible. The hope and respect these two people have for one another blew me away.

The story begins with the couple being separated by an ocean. Dean is away in Italy working on an excavation, and Liv is home in Mirror Lake. Maggie Hamilton is still very much an issue; the female student that accused Dean of coming onto her and asking for sexual favors. His career is on thin ice and his marriage is in need of some serious healing. Liv continues on her mission to be independent from Dean. With the bookstore she works at closing, she begins her search for a new job. While the pair needs some time apart to gather themselves individually, they still have a tough time being away from each other.

Just like any relationship, everything is perfect when their together alone in the safety of their home, but unfortunately they must face the things happening in the outside world.
"I want to grab her and shove her up against the nearest wall. Rip her clothes off and fuck her until the earth trembles and the stars explode. Until the universe shatters."
Like the previous novels, Awaken is told from both Liv and Dean's POV. I love this factor, because for this story in particular, it's interesting to see the relationship from both sides. I never felt a loss of connection from either one.

Not wanting to give anything away, I will simply say that I am pleased with the outcome. The West's have struggled and gone through painful situations, but all comes full circle. I was proud of how much Dean let loose, and how Liv found herself and was able to stand up on her own.

Despite my emotions being all over the place and occasionally wanting to rip Maggie's head off, every detail was flawless. There wasn't one thing I would change.

The thing that I really love, is how jam-packed this novel is. Awaken is indeed a full-length novel. With a novel of this length, there's bound to be moments that get a little boring or simply seem to drag on. That wasn't the case here. Every moment was captivating and entertaining. I was hanging on every word.

Most stories begin before the wedding bells, so we never really see what happens next. We finish stories with "and they lived happily ever after"..
But do they really?
No, of course not!
This series shows that it's not all unicorns and rainbows after marriage.

"This man would give me the stars, the moon, the sun. He has slayed monsters for me and alongside me. He's battled through dark, tangled woods with me because he has never once wavered in his belief that we are meant to be forever. He would do anything for me. For us."

This was a perfect conclusion to the series. This has been the most beautifully written series I have ever read. I love these characters and I will miss them with all my heart. I've enjoyed every second of this powerful and beautiful couple. They love with full force. This series has been heart warming and full of realistic parallels that many can relate to. Nina Lane has given me hope for true love; the good, the bad and the ugly that comes along with it as well.

Intense. Passionate. Real.
I will forever recommend this series.
