Synopsis
“In its purest form love is self-sacrificing, eternal, selfless, enduring, truthful, forgiving and indulgent. It also feels an awful lot like a kick to the stomach when you try to fight it!
All Everleigh Carsen wanted to do was complete her final semester at Hensley University and begin the life she carefully planned.
When a wave of violent crime seizes campus, Everleigh is persuaded to attend a school sponsored self-defense seminar by her best friend, where she meets volunteer instructor, Hunter Charles. After Everleigh’s biting sarcasm induces Hunter to eject her from class, a tempestuous relationship is born.
Everleigh is determined to forget the striking man, but fate–that fickle shrew–continuously intervenes. Unable to escape him, she declares Hunter an enemy combatant. The only complication… Hunter is resolutely pursuing vindication…by any means necessary. Verbal warfare ensues, and despite Everleigh’s ingenious efforts, in Hunter, she has finally found her equal.
Only For You is a compelling tale of friendship, desire, and redemption--brimming with intelligent characters, witty dialogue, unexpected twists, profound sorrow, unfettered hope, and love’s unassailable perseverance.

*Note: Although this is a series, each novel can be read as a stand alone

❥My Review
Everleigh Carsen is a college student in her senior year. Her best friend, Samantha, convinces her to take a women's self defense class due to all of the recent sexual assaults happening on and around campus. During the first class, they meet the instructor, Hunter Charles who is serious about getting the women ready to protect themselves. Everleigh is too much of a chatty kathy, interrupts the class, and thus irritating Hunter.
"He was the human equivalent of a perfect piece of fruit featured on a magazine cover--impossibly succulent, such perfection couldn't be real. The difference in this case being a picture could be doctored until it no longer resembled the original, but merely an idealized representation. He was no altered ideal--he was authentic sex incarnate."
The two end up meeting outside of the self defense training and begin a very special friendship.
Their banter is so adorable and entertaining!
The connection between the characters absolutely blew me away. There were such great friendships in the mix that went above and beyond. The sister-like relationship between Sam and Everleigh was quite powerful. Everleigh and Hunter's relationship was equally strong, and I believed it would be a lasting one. I enjoyed reading the progression of their friendship. It's not often that you see that in a romance novel.
"You need to let me go. Let me move on if you do not want me--if you don't want us. I'm your hostage right now. You keep me tied to you because you don't want to lose me, our friendship, but you're being selfish." I fought back the tears that threatened to fall. "Hunter, you're tearing me to shreds so that you can keep the pieces of me you want and discard the rest, and you're destroying me in the process. You don't get to keep my heart anymore if you refuse to give me yours in return. it's time to stop holding me in limbo. It's time to decide." ~Everleigh
I'm always extremely happy when an author manages to surprise me with certain turn of events. I kept thinking I had the culprit behind the assaults, but the one who was actually to blame didn't occur to me until closer to the end. I also had no clue what Hunter's story was and when it was revealed, I was absolutely floored!

I was really impressed with this debut novel. It tackles some dark issues and Genna Rulon executed the story wonderfully. The words flowed effortlessly and each character was developed well. I can wait to continue on with Samantha's story.

*An eBook copy of this book was provided by the author for an honest review. This has not affected my review/opinion.

Side note: This story was oddly realistic for me and came into my hands at the right time. My college campus has been having a lot of sexual assaults lately; although, not as serious as in the book. The current situation combined with this story encouraged me to take the women's self defense classes being offered.

My Rating: 5 kisses
