Aubrey Price is in the final months of her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto.  Bright, witty and fiercely independent, Aubrey works part-time for the college Dean and has her sights set on graduating with distinction.  When she meets Dean Grant’s son, Daniel, the TA in her senior Shakespearean studies course, a shared love of the Bard’s works and an instant mutual attraction draw Aubrey and Daniel together.  Unfortunately, a strict anti-fraternizing policy, made more perilous by a black mark on Daniel’s record, keeps them apart.
Against this academic backdrop, Aubrey and Daniel navigate their way through a steamy courtship, their forbidden romance aided, abetted and sometimes thwarted by a colorful cast of friends, family and classmates.

❥My Review:

First off, you need to know this book will leave you craving for more. It's the kind of story and writing that enraptures and pulls you into its world.

I didn't know of the connection between Georgina Guthrie and Sylvain Reynard prior to reading. While I read, I kept being reminded of Gabriel's Inferno. And that was a good thing! I'm a huge Reynard fan! The setting, the writing, the awesomeness! But don't let that make you think this is a wannabe. Georgina holds her own and has written a beautiful story that stands out amidst the sea of NA novels.

I love when a book can teach me things without my knowing. The Weight of Words did just that. There were literary references showered throughout the story, as well as cultural ones. I also loved the quotes from Shakespeare that began every chapter.

I absolutely loved all of the characters, especially Daniel and Aubrey. I think the thing I liked the most was that these two were so studious, intelligent, and classy. But in the blink of an eye, they turn into these salacious deviants.

Aubrey, 23 year-old college student, attends The University of Toronto. She has been by far one of my favorite literary heroines. She's smart and has a great personality. Ultimately she's simply a normal girl who could be your bff, or even you. Aubrey has a job on the side to help pay her way through college. She works at Victoria University as Dean Grant's assistant/secretary.

Daniel Grant, the dean's son, just so happens to be the TA for Aubrey's Shakespearean Studies class. Daniel seemed stuffy and uptight; not impacted by Aubrey's presence in the slightest. Or so she thinks.

The interactions between them.. SO MUCH SEXUAL TENSION. But it makes for such a fantastic book. Those flirty stares, their literary debates, the text messages. Dear Lord, THE TEXT MESSAGES! *fans self*

Ahem. *Clears throat* Let me tell you about my favorite scene.
Aubrey and Daniel find themselves in a game of pool. Now, Aubrey has no idea how to play so nice guy Daniel, who has had a few to drink, offers to give her a little lesson.
Here's just a bit of that interaction….

"Now take the cue and place the tip right there," he said, helping me balance it atop my left hand.
Oh, I'll tell you where to place the tip, Mr. Shmexy.
"With your right hand, grasp the shaft of the cue firmly up here."
I looked over my right shoulder. His face hovered beside my ear and his right hand wrapped around mine.
"How does that feel? he asked, his voice so low I almost couldn't hear him.
"That feels good," I said, and then I brazenly shifted my position slightly so that I could feel his crotch pressing against my ass.
"wait… now that? That's perfect."

….I mean.. *goes to sit in front of the fan*
Gosh, don't hate me for that teaser. Just go one-click the book. STAT!
And that's just one of the many steamy interactions between the two. I loved that about them. They could get hot an heavy and barely touch. Lit majors have a way with words! ;P

Every single page of The Weight of Words contains something to love. This book was full of witty banter, laugh out loud moments, and forbidden romance.
I look forward to continuing this complicating journey with Daniel and Aubrey.
My hats off to you Georgina Guthrie. Thank you so much for creating a flawless story.

About the Author

Georgina Guthrie has been a self-professed book hugger for as long as she can remember. An avid reader and compulsive diarist, she is thrilled to be taking the leap into the world of publishing. GG resides in Toronto, Canada, but she still considers herself a Brit through and through and can often be found roaming the aisles of her favourite British import shop.

A graduate of the University of Toronto where she studied English literature, GG is happy to fill her hours reading and writing, but she’s just as likely to be found enjoying a good film with her husband, dancing around the kitchen with her daughter, or hanging out with friends and family, almost certainly with a glass of red wine in one hand a bag of cheese and onion crisps in the other.
